The cathedral is the landmark of Palma de Mallorca and therefore also a popular tourist destination. The largest church building on the island is 109 meters long and 33 meters wide.

It was opened in 1229 and is shaped by the diocese of Mallorca. The cathedral is equipped with a large organ by Gabriel Tomas. This was built in the 19th century and restored again in 1993.

In addition, since 1932 there has been a museum in the chapter rooms and on the ground floor, which also houses the tomb of anti-pope Clement VIII. The absolute highlight of the cathedral are the nine bells from five centuries. 4 bells are from 1312 and two more from 1991. The largest bell in the cathedral is rung on feast days. It weighs 4,600 kilograms and is the largest moving bell in Spain.
